Threats From Niger Delta Over Non Payment Of Students Fees Under Amnesty Program

Students undergoing higher education in different countries worldwide under the Presidential Amnesty Program of the federal government are stranded due to the the inability of the government to pay their tuition and other fees.

Reports from This Day paper indicates that youths in the region including family members of the stranded students, are said to be threatening to begin attacks on oil facilities to compel the government to work out measures of settling its financial obligations to the students.

In reaction to this, ex-militant leaders and former commanders of the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta, MEND have sent a Save-Our-Soul appeal letter to President Buhari.

In the letter signed by their President, Reuben Wilson, he reminded the President that the amnesty, which was proclaimed by the late President Umaru Yar’Adua, was the reason behind the increase in crude oil production and reduction in kidnapping and pipeline destruction.
