During the week, the good news came that the Senate had passed the Sexual Offences Bill, 2015 which prescribes life imprisonment for rapists and those who have sexual intercourse with children under 11 years.
This seems like great news until I had a second look again at a report from Leadership and the 11 years old called out to me.
Does this mean it is right to have sex with a 12, 13, 14 15 year old? Is it acceptable for this age range to have sex?
I hope there is some clarification on this soon so the joy at the passage of this Bill is not short lived.
Meanwhile, the Sexual Offences Bill approves life imprisonment for gang rape, 10 years for incest, another 10 years imprisonment for child pornography and a fine of N2 Million as well as 14 years jail term for any other form of sexual offences committed.
