First Female Governor In Nigeria? INEC Says There Will Be Run-off Elections In Taraba State

There might still be hope and the possibility of having the first female Governor in Nigeria in Taraba state as INEC says there will be a run-off election between APC's Aisha Alhassan and PDP's Darius Ishaku.

INEC declared the gubernatorial election in the state last week inconclusive based on the fact that cancelled votes in the election were more than the margin between the votes polled by Darius Ishaku who came top in the election and Aisha Alhassan who was runner up.

The margin was 54,812 votes while the canceled votes were 127,125.

Meanwhile, the returning officer, Kyari Mohammad explained that the Constitution of Nigeria and the Electoral Act stipulates that in such a situation, elections should be declared inconclusive and a run-off should be conducted.
