European Union Confirms 8 Billion Naira Cash Support To INEC


In a move to assist the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the European Union, EU, confirms that it gave about 8 Billion Naira to help put in place necessary infrastructure and training that will ensure the elections are credible.

In an interview with Channels Television today, the EU Managing Director for Africa, Nick Westcott, said the funds are part of the EU’s commitment to ensuring that Nigeria’s elections were also peaceful.

He also further expressed confidence that INEC would do a good and honest job and also said they are providing global observation, with 90 people spread across the country, as independent observers to report what they see.

Mr Westcott pointed out that the EU's interest in Nigeria’s election was important because it is one of the biggest democracies in the world and should serve as examples to other to other African countries as well as the world.
