After 6 Months Of Blackout, Residents Of Maiduguri Call On Federal Government To Restore Power

Residents of Damboa area in Maiduguri are appealing to the Federal Government to help restore power back in their town.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN electricity supply was cut in June, 2014, after a suspected insurgents attack on a power station in Damboa, headquarters of Damboa Local Government Area.

A cross section of residents say the lack of electricity in the city has caused severe damages to social and economic life of citizens. They call it a very sad situation as most residents have to depend on power generating sets for power supply daily and those who cannot afford the high cost of maintaining the sets end up sleeping in darkness.

The situation has also caused many artisans to look for something else to do for their survival as they have been forced out of their usual jobs.

Meanwhile those that can even afford fuel for their power generating sets say they hardly break even and usually record losses at the end of the day’s business.

This cry is coming after repeated promises by Mohammed Wakil, the Minister of State for Power, that the Federal Government would restore electricity supply to the city last year.
