Federal Court Orders FRSC To Go Ahead With New Number Plates

If you were part of those rejoicing that you won't have to change the number plate of your car to the new one as mandated by the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC anymore, then you have another think coming.
Prior to this time, the FRSC had given a deadline and many people(myself included)rushed to get the new number plate all for us to hear later on that the case had been taken to court and there was an order for it to be stopped.

Trust me, I was vexed at this because not only was it very stressful getting the new number plate, I had also gone through physical and psychological trauma getting the new Drivers License as well(Lol...ok,enough of my venting)

Anyway, the main gist is that the Court of Appeal, Lagos, has granted the FRSC the permission to go ahead with the new number plate. Justice Shagbaor Ikegh, gave the ruling in a judgment last Friday which was released to newsmen this week in Lagos.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, the plaintiff, Emmanuel Ofoegbu, had filed a suit against the FRSC before a Federal High Court, Lagos, challenging the 1st of October deadline set for motorists to change to the number plate and the threat to impound vehicles of defaulters.

Initially,Justice John Tsoho of the lower court had on the 26th of March described this move by the FRSC as unconstitutional and held that they could not force it upon Nigerians, without an enabling legal framework. He also described the plans by the FRSC as dictatorial and an arbitrary use of power contrary to the constitution.

However, dissatisfied with the decision of the lower court, the FRSC approached the appellate court, seeking an order upturning its verdict and in simple terms, you still need to change from the old number plate to the new one.
