Reports indicate that there are plans by the Federal Government to start collecting tolls at Nigeria’s major border posts.
This is according to the Chairman, Concessionaire and Tolling Committee, Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, FERMA, Alhaji Mohammed Gusau at the Idiroko border during a visit by members of the committee for on-the-spot assessment.
He said this will be geared towards maintainance of the roads and what this means is that motorists coming into the country and those leaving through our border posts will pay a toll which is an International Vehicle Transit charge. For example, as you leave Idiroko border, you will pay a toll fee before you enter the capital of Republic of Benin, Cotonou.
However, before the toll takes effect, Alhaji Gusau says FERMA would put the roads at the border posts in good shape first so people won't mind paying the toll.
