According to the News Agency Of Nigeria, NAN, Katsina state Government has taken positive measures to reduce the rate of open defecation in the state.
Over 40 toilets have been constructed in major markets as part of measures and it was confirmed in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, Katsina State Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), Nura Badi.
There had been an ugly trend of open defecation by people especially on market days and if not stopped it could lead to an outbreak of diseases like cholera and typhoid fever, among others.
The traders were also advised to make good use of the toilets properly and shun the practice of indiscriminate open defecation.Also,the market authorities were urged to ensure maintenance of the toilet facilities.
